I am an experienced Systems Engineer with a passion for Delphi development. Interfacing disparate systems and solving the unsolvable a specialty.

At 67, compensation is less important to me than the fulfillment that work offers. I am mainly interested in WFH opportunities.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER

BROTHER INDUSTRIED(UK)LTD

Moving to the Brother Industries UK Wrexham factory, I used Delphi as my tool of choice. Starting with D4, I have experience with D6, D7, XE, 10.1 – 10.4 and I now use D11.2 I created a time and attendance system to give supervisors visibility of line staff training. This allowed them to rapidly re-assign tasks when staff were ill or on holiday. This saved 1 -2 hours daily. This software included biannual reviews so that management and staff fully understand their responsibility’s. I created an application that used microscope photography to determine correct assembly reducing QA failure by 90% I wrote programmes that interfaced with physical equipment and scanners ensuring production line had done the correct job before their piece of work moved onto the next worker reducing QA fails by 100% I wrote a piece of software that controls sorting, retiring, refilling & repackaging of toner cartridges from start to finish this allows various toner cartridges to be remanufactured from a different version of toner cartridge the application of this software and recollection paradigm reduced piracy by 80% and led to two sites being developed in Europe to cope with the volumes. I wrote a robot control software for the Brother US plant which allowed multiple types of robots to be attached. I made the software open ended so they could introduce new tests and outputs without having to re write the software. I gave them a drag and drop interface so they could create their own scripts. This software uses SOAP to interfaces with SAP software that had been produced for BIUS by a third-party company. I managed to produce the software $75% less than the cost of the bespoke software I created a pick-pack and despatch software for Domino Ink in Liverpool that ensured the product being picked is correct for the order being produced. The system needed to be flexible enough to ensure that the correct liquids were packed safely in the requisite boxes some of the liquids being explosive and others corrosive there are lots of rules that determined how these liquids should be transported. My application integrated with robots, handheld scanners and interfaced with their existing Oracle database. Reducing customer complaints by 98% Apart from my programming experience, while at BIUK I specified and installed an Ethernet network, this allowed BIUK to use cheap AS400 emulation software instead of expensive rented IBM consoles. I was responsible for the first Brother AD domain in Europe, and I also oversaw the specification and implementation of BIUK’s VM farm. I oversaw the construction of Brother’s Slovakian plant IT infrastructure, and I maintained servers in both locations.

CONTRACT DEVELOPER

BROTHER INDUSTRIED(UK)LTD

Part of my college course was a two-week work placement at GKK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brother Industries UK. I was tasked with interfacing a Clipper program with an AS400 database. My success led to a contract to create a production monitor for plastic moulding machines. GKK managed to reduce waste by 40% and customer complaints by 80% Using just in time principles and Six Sigma training created dashboards and reports for management

Interests

I keep myself busy learning new frameworks, and better ways to apply the stuff I already know. Currently learning HTMX I hope to have some examples online soon.

In my leisure time I enjoy playing computer games, mainly strategy or simulation. No stranger to a full English, I walk my dogs for exercise. In the evening I will read lurid murder mysteries.
